Snow & Ice Removal

Property Owner Responsibilities
Within 24 hours of a completed snowfall, property owners are responsible for the shoveling and de-icing of sidewalks and curb ramps for the handicapped bordering their properties.

Plowing & Dumping Regulations
City Ordinances prohibit the plowing or dumping of snow on any public street, alley or public property, or upon the property of another, without the express permission of the owner of the property.

Penalties
Failure to clear sidewalks within the allotted time will cause the City to clear them with all costs and fees being charged to the property owner or management.

City Snow Removal Procedures
The City normally does not plow streets unless the total snow accumulation is 3 or more inches, but salting is done if the total accumulation is less than 3 inches. Major thoroughfares have first priority, and if possible, will be plowed and salted by morning. Residential side streets will be completed after the major streets are finished.

Trash Collection
As a reminder, residents should place garbage cans at a safe distance up the driveway during the snow season so the cans are not hit by snowplows or snow load from the plows during plowing operations. Any garbage cans that are placed in the road may be hit and it will be the responsibility of the homeowner to replace if damaged.
