Milwaukee County Parks

Oak Leaf Trail Zip Line Culvert Replacement

  • Milwaukee County is moving forward with replacement of the culvert under the Oak Leaf Trail (OLT) Zip Line where a sink hole has developed. The sink hole is north of Silver Spring Road and west of Green Bay Road in the City of Glendale. The Zip Line is one of the most popular segments of the OLT, with average usership of over 350,000 trips a year. Currently, the trail is closed, with a detour running parallel. Construction will take place in late summer/early fall.

Capital Projects

I-43 URT project

  • the I-43 NB exit to ramp to Hampton Ave WB will close permanently starting Tuesday pm, June 15th
  • the I-43 NB exit ramp to Hampton Ave EB will close long-term starting Tuesday pm, June 15th until late 2023

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), as part of the I-43 URT (Union Refrigerator Transit Line) project, is reconstructing and re-aligning and lowering the freeway profile of 1.5 miles of I-43, between Capitol Drive and north of Hampton Avenue. This project includes, reconstructing several bridges, adding retaining walls, improving traffic signals, and replacing noise walls within the project limits.   • The following work is scheduled to begin in 2021:
    • I-43 NORTH exit ramp to Hampton Avenue West to permanently close mid-June   
    • I-43 NORTH exit ramp to Hampton Avenue East is scheduled to close the night of Tuesday, June 15, 2021 through late 2023   
    • Hampton Avenue, under I-43, reduced to one lane in each direction, mid-July through late 2023   
    • Hampton Avenue entrance ramp to I-43 SOUTH is scheduled to close July 2021 through late 2023   
    • I-43 NORTH from Glendale Avenue to Silver Spring Drive reduced to two lanes fall through late 2021  
    • Fiebrantz Avenue entrance ramp to I-43 NORTH is scheduled to close fall through late 2021 
    • Fiebrantz Avenue entrance ramp to I-43 NORTH is scheduled to close whenever a northbound lane is reduced, through late 2023
    • Overnight lane closures and intermittent ramp closures are expected throughout the duration of the project
  • The following work is scheduled to begin in 2022:
    • I-43 between Silver Spring Drive and Capitol Drive reduced to two lanes, in each direction, early spring through late fall 
    • I-43 SOUTH exit to Green Bay Avenue to close in fall through late 2023   
  • The following work is scheduled to begin in 2023:
    • Green Bay Avenue northbound entrance to I-43 SOUTH to close in fall   
    • I-43 NORTH exit to Green Bay Avenue/Capitol Drive to close in fall   
    • I-43 from Capitol Drive to Silver Spring Drive reduced to two lanes, in each direction, early spring through late fall 
    • Port Washington Road from Glendale Road to Hampton Avenue reduced to one lane early spring
